Asa Cline House, a historic bed and breakfast inn, offers West Virginia lodging accommodations in a picturesque country setting that is perfect for your next vacation or weekend getaway.
Merrie and John Hammond are only the fourth family to have owned this well cared for, 218-year-old West Virginia home, now operated as a bed and breakfast. The original log house, built by the Secrist family in the early 1790s, has 9-foot ceilings on both floors. Two generations of the Asa Cline family lived in the house the longest, and each generation built substantial frame additions. A wing with two-story porches that houses the guest rooms was added in 1865. The kitchen wing was added in 1913. The Hammonds added a sunroom, a stone patio, a carriage house, and completely renovated the kitchen wing in 2007-2008. Furnishings include sturdy historic pieces as well as many items hand crafted by West Virginia artisans.
All improvements to the house and property have respected the history of the property as well as the ecology, including protection of the ingenious system that supplies wonderful spring water to several houses in the community. Other "green" initiatives include installation of a geothermal heating and air conditioning system, composting for the garden, recycling of glass, paper, plastic and metals, and efficient wood stoves burning the property’s downed wood.
